DRIVE! 1.5
The free update provides a wealth of new features and improvements. Now, any number of vehicles can be simulated and recorded simultaneously. Optionally, collisions of the car body with the ground are calculated, so that a car e.g. can roll over several times. With the improved learning mode the results of the simulation are now almost 100% reproducible. In the new version, more parameters can be changed during the running simulation, e.g. the time scale can be animated to get beautiful slow motion effects. Skid marks can be fitted with a rail spline, so that they always lie perfectly on the ground even in steep turns or sloping terrain. And more…
CRASHBOX 1.0
The new CRASHBOX Add-on for DRIVE! enables collisions between cars and other objects. Characteristic force curves are used to define crumple zones that achieve a realistic crash behavior of the car. Damages of the car are controlled by the simulation via various deformer objects and can be extended by custom effects. Special output ports can be used to make connections to CINEMA 4D R12 Dynamics.

Ptex is an efficient Per-Face Texture Mapping method developed by Brent Burley1 and Dylan Lacewell2. It does not use UV coordinates but stores a separate texure per face in a single texture file for a given mesh and supports multi-resolution textures for MIP mapping.

Adding detail to 3D objects for enhancement of apparent size or realism is a time-consuming task. It is made easier if tools are available to reduce the workload and time involved. Greebler is that new tool for your arsenal. It provides support for multiprocessors, NET Render, selections, materials, and much more.

“This 40 minute tutorial demonstrates and explains the Soft Selection mode that the Live Selection Tool, Move, Scale and Rotate Tools have. This is a replacement for an old 9 minute tutorial. At 40 minutes, I cover things a lot better this time around.” -3DKiwi

Those with long memories (back to C4D R8.5 or earlier) may remember a shader system called ‘DarkTree’. This was (and still is) a system to develop complex procedural shaders using a variety of mathematical components linked together in a shader tree. These shaders are independent of the host application but for several of the major 3D apps, a plugin (called a Simbiont) was available to let you use the shaders in the app of your choice, and the simbiont interface allowed you to adjust a number of parameters for each shader tree. The simbiont didn’t allow you to develop your own dark trees, but there were a very large number of prewritten ones which can still be downloaded for free from the DarkSim site. And of course you can still buy the app which lets you create your own trees.
